Groups Sue to Overturn City Council Approval Of $4.8 Million Contract to do Final Design Years Before Environmental Review is Complete

• The City violated state environmental law when it approved a contract to do final design of the proposed Regents Road bridge project before completing the new Environmental Impact Report (EIR). Contrary to City claims, final design is not needed to do the EIR.
• The new EIR must analyze alternatives that are less damaging. Spending millions on final design now means the City will likely ignore these alternatives when the EIR is complete.
• The City is gambling millions in public funds on final design of a project that may never be built.
